Welcome
Hello, this is an introduction to the small 'Glen Bruar' stud in Fochabers, Moray which is named after my birthplace and 'home' at Glen Bruar which is situated to the north of Blair Atholl, in Perthshire Scotland.
My father was a gamekeeper on the Atholl Estate for over 40 years. My family moved to Bruar in 1968 from Glen Tilt which is also on Atholl. The method used for the carrying off deer and grouse (with the guests' bag) was and still is by Highland Pony due to the rough terrain and the steep ground.
The glen is as remote as it gets - set off road, it is 9 miles from the A9, it's nearest point of civilisation and to travel the 9 miles it takes a landrover 40 minutes. To the North, the nearest land mark is Ruthven Barracks, Kingussie and to the east, it would be Glenshee/Braemar direction.
In summer, it is the most beautiful of locations, in winter it is beautiful but treacherous.
I have made great attempts to retain and revive the old bloodlines with which we started which are predominantly Invervack and I am getting there slowly.
