HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

At last 2010, and Happy New Year to all my close friends and everyone who has taken time to view this website - hopefully some doors can be closed and new doors can be opened........ Hope everyone has a great year ahead of them.
The weather is very wintery at the moment which has been nice but we would like it to go away now as too much of a good thing and all that.

Update October 2009

Having had a difficult second half of the year through grazing and personal health issues, we seem to be getting back on track again. I take nothing for granted now and my perspective on life has changed.

All the ponies are fine and looking well. On a visit to them today, I spent - for once - time to reflect and also to examine what I have in the field and how each pony has changed......

Storm has changed the most - he is absolutely MASSIVE!!!! A bonny, friendly boy, he is going to make a fabulous ridden prospect.
The best-est girl, Chime is looking tremendous. When she stands and admires her world, she really has every star quality that any Highland Pony owner could wish for. She is my ''dream pony''.....
Misty is looking sedate and very much in foal. I hope my friend, Joyce is correct and Misty is cooking a filly!!!
Summer, Ella and Katrine are all looking really well, fluffy and happy - my main aim......

***********

Just back from the Royal Highland Show and Chime was awarded 2nd prize in the 2 year old class!!!! It was great catching up with old friends and new - thank you all.

14 days until the Royal Highland Show and I JUST CAN'T WAIT...... Summer and Storm are going on their holidays too so I can rest easy knowing that they will be well cared for. I am only taking one - you can probably guess which one. Here's hoping that I can catch up with friends who I have not seen for ages and if anyone reads this and is going to the RHS then please stop and have a chat......

June

Seems so long since my last update.... Summer has had her foal - a colt called Summer Storm. Again, it was a bit of a drama with Summer passing the afterbirth but retaining another! Storm is such a big colt it is hard to understand how there was room for two. The other which must have been still born and very small has not been found in the 25 acre. Summer then contracted toxic laminitis having held the AB for 48 hours (should be removed after 8 hours) and has been very ill. I have had to have her inside and also have had to feel Storm by hand - a job in itself!
She is now recovering thank goodness.

Misty has been successfully covered by Kyle and is due in March 2010.

February 28 - yesterday I broke my wrist.... I am not able to do the ponies with my cast and it is driving me nuts! Thankfully I have my little helpers so all is not lost.

It has been a difficult year so far with crashed Land rovers, broken bones and such but spring is just around a large corner.....

January news: -

We have been SO lucky with the weather so far this year .... cold and windy but the rain and snow have kept away so the ground is dry and not poached. The ponies are thriving - Pride is growing well and is very well mannered. I can rasp his feet in the field with no headcollar on and he stands very patiently.

The Hobbits are great fun - everyone adores them including my Other Half who only tends to despair at them when they attempt to gain entry to his precious Land Rover! We have to cart water at the moment as we rely on the rainwater from the roof of the shelter running into the trough but because there has been no rain.....

Chime , Ella and Misty are all well. Those of you who knew Misty was up for sale can now see that she is off the market and will remain with us. She will be served by Kylemore this year and hopefully we will have two babies next year. Summer has moved in with Pride and the Hobbits as she was too ribby for my liking and she stands in the field shelter munching her hay to her absolute delight! She gets two hard feeds per day as the babies do and she is just thrilled.... She has never been inside in her life before so she deserves a little TLC.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to All!!!!
All the ponies are well and Thyme is sold and due to leave for her new home on 29 December. We wish her and her new owner well. Pride has settled in well and is growing like a mushroom. His nature is fabulous and I adore him.

22 November 2008

Our field shelter is now here and it is fantastic! I have the Hobbits in one side and Thyme, weaned, in the other. I collect Pride on 24 November so he will get the other side of the shelter until we all get to know each other. The first snow has come and gone but it's a shock to the system seeing it fall so early.

10 November 2008

Last weekend we competed at our last show of the year and came home with two Reserve Championships, three 1st prizes, a fifth and a sixth prize!!! It was our local foal show in Elgin and was a lovely day out for all.
We are looking now at streamling our efforts and some of the ponies may be sold however let's get the winter over and done with first and then we shall see. Nick's work is taking him abroad for a while next year so life will be difficult.

22.09.08

We are home from the North East of Scotland Showing Championships and both Chime and Misty came home with rosettes. It was fantastic that both were in the final six and called back for the evening performance. Misty was pulled in fifth and Chime was 3rd and awarded the Best Yearling Rosette. For the evening performance we had to trot into the indoor school and down the long back wall - the ponies were in absolute hyper mode and there were some lovely long paces from them. The music was blaring, crowds cheering and clapping - what an experience for the young ponies. Chime lapped it up as usual but even she was hyper! A great show for the last of the season.
Each pony has come home with a rosette at each show this year. What more can I ask for!!!!

03.09.2008

Ponies are started to get their winter coats. Such a shame as it doesn't seem that long ago that we were trying to get rid of the last lot! Summer Thyme has grown dramatically over the past few weeks and she allows us to scratch her and to pull her ears which she just loves!! Thyme is very laid back and hangs around the gate with us whilst the other ponies drift away and she appears to be in no hurry to get back to them or her poor mother...... Nice for me though! It seems that I may not need to part with her at the moment either so she is coming off the for sale page just now.

13.08.2008

Well that is the end of the summer shows for us.
At the Black Isle, Misty and Chime were 3rd in their respective classes and at Keith, Chime was 1st and Ella was 2nd in the yearling class. A great set of results to finish with!!!

We may attend at the North East of Scotland Showing Championships with two of the ponies but will wait and see which two we take.

Then it's the foal shows in November.

04.08.08

Thanks to all who have contaced me through the website. It has been fun setting it up and showing off the ponies. Please feel free to contact me via the website or via glenbruar@sky.com.

We have two more shows (maybe three as Misty and Ella have qualified for the North of Scotland Championship Show), Black Isle and Keith. The ponies have all done well this year.

I have now decided to sell Summer Thyme at weaning. I have enough breeding mares at the moment and to see us through the winter I have decided she will be the one to be sold.

29.07.08

We have Summer and Summer Thyme home now and I am really pleased at how Thyme has grown. She has lovely conformation and good bone.

Ella and Misty went to Banchory Show and were 1st and 3rd respectively - another fantastic result for us.

I also received an email about Thyme's half brother(/uncle) an extract being as follows
''Just had to let you know what a super star your homebred pony is. I was at a local show yesterday with Finn and Vegan (Glen Bruar Dunvegan, 4 yo stallion) was in the same class. He has only been broken 7 weeks and won the open ridden class, was Champion ridden and then went Supreme of show. A welsh cob was 2nd who has competed at HOYS 3 times and to get the champion ridden he got that over an exmoor that has also been to HOYS also. The pony he beat to get supreme was the inhand champion, another exmoor that represent the exmoor breed at Olympia last year. ''
As you can imagine, I am delighted with this news and hope that Anna and Ted can send me pictures to put onto the site.

After being at the HPS Breed Show with Joyce and Kylemore (he was 2nd in the Stallion class!!) I paid my deposit on Achnacone Bruar's Pride - Sandra MacCoquodale's colt foal from Glen Bruar Fern. He is a lovely boy.......

01.07.08
Today I have just confirmed that I am buying a colt foal. No details will be shared until I know that he is on his way here or at least for a few months but I am really chuffed at the pictures I have of him! He is bred on my Invervack lines and also 'Garry' lines. This was a stallion I admired years ago but never saw him in the flesh. Here is hoping that it all comes together.

24.06.08
We are back from the RHS and what a week!!!
All three girls brought home rosettes, Ella 3rd, Chime 6th and Misty a 6th. They are totally different ponies now, especially Ella who was well over the top when we arrived. After 3 parades however she has settled down and matured a hell of alot. Congratulations to the Bairds on winning the Championship with their beautiful brood mare and also to Beth Wells who had a fantastic show. Hugh Duncan, my good friend was overwhelmed when he won the male championship with Whitefield Prince General. Well done to all - the ponies looked amazing!

14.06.08
Well things have changed again! Hugh Duncan of Craignetherty has kindly offered us a lift to the Highland Show and we are back to taking three ponies instead of two!!!

At the HNPECS, Ella came 2nd to Beth Well's lovely yearling filly who went on to take Reserve Champion, and Chime was 3rd.

26.05.08
Becky and I discussed the Highland Show again and we have decided due to financial constrictions and travelling logistics, we will only be taking two ponies to the Show instead of three. At the moment we have decided on Misty and Chime however it depends on who is looking good that week so names may change.....

20.05.08
Summer has had her first filly foal!!! We are going to call her Glen Bruar Summer Thyme - a name I have stored for years in silent anticipation. She is black at present and you never know she may stay that way. Summer's grandsire was Sgt Major of Whitefield , a dark boy himself.
Chime and Misty have both done well at the two shows that we have attended. Chime was Reserve Champion at the Strathbogie Farmers Club Show which was fantastic. We were gobsmacked..... Misty was 2nd in her class at the same show.
22.04.08
Since my last update, the web site was taken over and we had no access so this is the first chance I have had to update for 2008. I apologise to all the people who have contacted me through the web site and that I have not replied to - I will reply but it may take a few days to do so!!!

6 April 2008 - our first Show at the Northern Working Horse Show - Chime was Reserve Champion and Ella was 2nd in their class.

I have entered Chime, Misty and Ella for the Royal Highland Show this year and am looking forward to the break - if the Highland can be described as such!

A friend and I have also loaned out the beautiful stallion Turin Hill Kylemore from Marty Stemmer in the Netherlands after poor Marty had a horrific accident. Summer will be covered by him in foal heat and hopefully next year Misty may be covered.

Dibble has been sold to the Netherlands and Holly is now in West Sussex. We wish them and their new owners well and hope to be updated with photos every now and then.

I have had many ups and downs with Chime but will not delve into all that - the main thing is some how she is still sound, unblemished and just gorgeous.

We have also a new purchase called Misty (Thea of Sherrifmuir) who I bought from a lovely lady in West Wales. Bred by Sue Scourfield, Misty is by Ruskie of Fourmerk (Rory of Balinoe, one of my favourite stallions x Rosella of Rosemount) and out of Gail of Dounemount (Glen Bruar III x Cairn's Pride) I had no intention of buying another pony as I needed the rest from the winter and the previous summer but due to her lines and the photos her owner sent me, I made the rather 'rash' decision and bought Misty, unseen, from Wales!!! I have never taken a chance like this before and do not recommend it but due to her age and the fact that I really liked the look of her, a week or so later, Misty travelled up the road to us, 25 miles from where her mother was born!!!

She resembles both Rose of Invervack, Bruar's dam and also Rosella who I remember from Fourmerk. She has filled a large gap in our hearts after the loss of Rose last year.
